Lomonosov Moscow State University with over 40000 full-time students is the oldest and largest university in Russia, and also a recognized country leader in innovation and basic research. Among its graduates and professors there were five Nobel Prize and four Fields medal winners.
Since 1992, MSU operates its Science Park, which is the oldest functioning science park in Russia. In 11500 square meters it houses 45 hi-tech companies employing 2500 people and has an annual turnover of over 150 million USD. In 2004, the Center for Technology Transfer was opened. Annually, about 20 start-ups are launched.
